SRAM 10 Speed Chain 1051

Regularly cleaning and lubing your chain will yield a higher life expectancy. It may start a as glimmering, shiny, beautiful set of links, but black grime and dirt will inevitably seep into every gap and slowly weather the chain into a tired, skip-happy, hideous pile of scrap metal.

It's been a great few months but for the sake of your performance and the health of your cassette, its time to retire your old chain and replace it with a sparkling new one. Lets see how long you can keep it clean...

How do I know when to replace my chain?
Poor shifting and skipping are the major signs that your chain is done. Also, check your cassette to see if the teeth are beginning to wear down. They will appear sharpened or 'shark toothed' rather than flat on top. These are indicators that your chain is stretched and worn.

How can I prolong the life of my chain?
Clean your bike and your chain often! Apply degreaser, let sit, and wipe clean. After cleaning, slowly apply drops of lube to the inside of the chain, spin, and remove excess. Keeping your cassette is equally important. Remove the wheel, apply degreaser, let sit and wipe each cog clean with a thin rag.
